Wall Anchor Stabilizes Cracked Basement Wall in Westerville, OH

Homeowners in Westerville, OH, purchased their house about a year ago, and recently they became concerned with settling and sinking. They wanted to make sure their home would be structurally sound.

Structural Engineer Steve Schira with ProCheck Engineering evaluated the home’s foundation, and recommended the homeowners contact Ohio Basement Authority. Mr. Schira specified many areas of the home’s crawl space and foundation, such as the foundation walls were bowing due to hydrostatic pressure. Hydrostatic pressure is the pressure exerted by a fluid due to the force of gravity. As water saturates the backfill soils around the foundation, the water exerts pressure against the wall.

Their home is on a hillside of Hoover Dam in Westerville. Because of a dam being close to a property, the soils around water areas are more challenging. A lot of the house was already renovated, so it was also a challenge to find the best solution because of drywall and soil still on the foundation.

One of our inspectors took note of cracks in the foundation wall and mortar missing in the crawl space foundation walls. He also visited the homeowners and reviewed the job site several times before work began.

Ohio Basement Authority completed several foundation repair and waterproofing projects.

Existing steel I-Beams were replaced, Carbon Fiber wall supports and a CarbonFiber corner strap was installed, and a Helical TieBack and Wall Anchor were also installed. These products all help support the foundation wall. The Carbon Fiber straps resist further bending of the wall. The Helical TieBack and Wall Anchor System permanently stabilize the basement wall.

Waterproofing methods included the installation of a footer drain, a French drain, and the BasementGutter drainage system. These are preventative measures that also help direct water away from the foundation.

These products solved the homeowners’ water issues, which were causing the structural issues to the home. They now have a permanently stabilized foundation and a Lifetime Transferable Warranty, and are very happy with the end result.
