A woman recently reached out to Ohio Basement Authority because she was concerned with her mother’s home in Springfield, OH. She recently noticed the basement of the home, which her mother has lived in for many years, had water seepage along with cracking and tilting walls.

The woman was eager to meet with one of our inspectors to see how we could enhance the safety of her mother’s home. Inspector Jacob Thomas visited the property to complete a thorough evaluation of the problematic basement. Jacob discussed his findings with the woman and her mother, as well as their goals for a repair project. Jacob then recommended some of our reliable basement waterproofing and foundation repair solutions.

Foreman Jose de Jesus Tellez Ortiz and his crew then waterproofed the basement with the BasementGutter interior drainage system, SafeDri Prox sump pump and external FreezeGuard. The basement also was reinforced with Carbon Fiber supports and IntelliBrace beams.

The crew first worked to stabilize the foundation walls with IntelliBraces and Carbon Fiber. Both systems permanently stabilize the walls and protect them from any further damage.

The heavy-duty IntelliBrace beams were placed on the more severely cracking wall in order to help improve its condition. The top of the beams are secured to the floor joists and then plumbed against the wall as level as possible. The bottoms of the beams are then anchored to the floor. A large-diameter bolt at the top of the wall can be adjusted and tightened to potentially improve and help straighten the wall. Unlike typical metal support beams, the IntelliBrace beams are zinc-coated to resist corrosion and damage.

Carbon Fiber supports were placed on the walls that were not in as much disrepair. These durable, low-profile supports firmly adhere to the walls to stabilize them in their current positions. They also can be concealed with paint, drywall, or other basement finishing materials.

To address the seeping water problem, the BasementGutter system was installed in the sub-floor and atop the footer. This system intercepts water from the walls and floor, and then directs the water to the SafeDri Prox sump pump. The SafeDri’s ½ hp pump inside the liner can pump more than 2,000 gallons of water out of the basement per hour. Additionally, a FreezeGuard was attached to the exterior sump pump discharge line to prevent basement flooding.

The homeowner and her daughter now have peace of mind knowing these trustworthy repairs have helped create a safer and healthier living environment.
