Addressing Radon and Basement Waterproofing in Upper Sandusky, OH
They have lived in their house since it was built 10 years ago, but it wasn’t until recently that homeowners in Upper Sandusky, OH, began to be concerned about the health of their home. They plan to live in the house for quite a while, so they wanted to make sure it would be a healthy environment. That is why they wanted to address any issues with radon in their home. Radon is a naturally occurring gas that is present throughout the United States. It is produced by the decay of uranium in rocks and soil, and it is a very hazardous gas. Radon has been linked to more than 20,000 deaths every year, and it is the second leading cause of lung cancer. Exposure to radon is particularly dangerous for smokers and former smokers. Radon is colorless, odorless and tasteless, so it is difficult to detect it without the proper testing. The homeowners had their house tested for radon twice, and the results indicated the levels ranged from 16 to 32.3 pCi/L (picocuries per liter). This is four to eight times higher than the level at which radon mitigation systems are strongly recommended for homes, which is 4 pCi/L. The owners wanted to take every precaution and get the home’s radon levels as low as possible, so they contacted Ohio Basement Authority, and we installed a radon mitigation system in their house. This involved drilling holes into the basement and crawl space floors to create suction points. The radon gas is vented through PVC pipes connected to these holes. A fan is mounted to the home’s exterior for proper ventilation. The radon entry points were sealed, the crawl space was encapsulated in CrawlSeal, and the existing sump pump was replaced by the SafeDri Triple sump pump. The homeowners were pleased these reliable repair solutions were installed so their house will be a safer and healthier living environment for many years to come.
Improving the Health of a Home in Powell, OH, with Radon Mitigation and Crawl Space Encapsulation
Upon moving into their house, homeowners in Powell, OH, wanted to make sure the home would be healthy and safe. They were concerned with what the home’s radon levels could be. Radon is a colorless, odorless, tasteless gas that is produced by uranium decay in rocks and soil. It is naturally occurring and it present across the country. However, radon gas is extremely hazardous. Exposure to radon has been linked to more than 20,000 deaths per year, and it is a leading cause of lung cancer. Radon is particularly dangerous to smokers and former smokers. The homeowners contacted Ohio Basement Authority after learning more about our company online, and we tested the house for radon. The results indicated the home’s radon levels were approximately 10 pCi/L (picocuries per liter). This is more than double the level at which mitigation systems are recommended for homes, which is 4 pCi/L. The owners were eager for us to install a radon mitigation system in their new home. This involved creating suction points to pull radon from out of the home. One suction point was created in the floor of the partial crawl space adjacent to the basement, and a hole was drilled into the basement’s concrete slab floor to create the other suction point. PVC pipe is connected to these holes and directed to the home’s exterior. An exterior fan also is installed to help ventilate the radon gas out of the home. A domed and sealed lid also was placed on the basement’s existing sump pump to prevent radon from infiltrating the home through the system. The homeowners also were concerned with the partial crawl space, so we waterproofed it with the CrawlDrain drainage system and SafeDri sump pump. We also encapsulated the crawl space in CrawlSeal liner. This durable liner serves as a moisture and vapor barrier that also helps insulate the crawl space. The appearance of the crawl space and basement also is improved by the bright white liner. The homeowners now have peace of mind knowing these many reliable repair solutions have helped them create a safer and healthier forever home.
Radon Mitigation and Crawl Space Encapsulation in Powell, OH
They have lived in their house since it was built five years ago, and during the last couple of years, homeowners in Powell, OH, have been thinking about the effects of radon on their living environment. This naturally occurring gas, which is produced by uranium decay in rocks and soil, is colorless, odorless and tasteless. This gas is a health hazard, however, the Environmental Protection Agency estimates radon is responsible for approximately 21,000, or 15 percent, of all lung cancer fatalities every year. Concerned for their personal health and the health of their home, the owners wanted to address the potential presence of radon in their house and take the necessary steps to protect themselves. After testing their home, the results indicated the levels of radon were 8 picocuries per liter (pCi/L). This is double the level at which the EPA recommends installing mitigation systems in homes, which is 4 pCi/L. Once they learned more about Ohio Basement Authority from online resources like Angie’s List, the homeowners contacted us for assistance with addressing their home’s elevated radon levels. We installed a radon mitigation system in their home by creating a suction point in the basement’s concrete slab floor to suck the radon out of the home. Pipe connected to this suction point was directed through the attic and past the roof to safely expel the radon gas outdoors. The partial crawl space also was encapsulated in CrawlSeal liner and a domed and sealed lid was placed on the sump pump to prevent radon from entering the home through these locations. The homeowners are happy these reliable installation projects were completed so their home will be a safer and healthier living environment for many years to come.
A Crawl Space in Delaware, OH, is Converted to a Larger Basement
After living in their house for six years, homeowners in Delaware, OH, were starting to outgrow the house. The crawl space underneath the home was essentially unused, but it was too small of an area to be used for the proper storage or livable space they imagined. The owners decided they wanted to do a crawl space conversion to transform this area into a full basement. After researching local companies that could accomplish this, they contacted Ohio Basement Authority. The area around the existing crawl space was excavated, and crews dug out the area for the expanded basement. New footing was constructed and poured for the new area, and the new block foundation walls were built. The footers and walls were both reinforced with rebar, and concrete floors were poured. Waterproofing products were installed to keep this expanded area dry, including a footer drain, SafeDri and SafeDri Super Sump pumping systems, and a dehumidifier. Crawl space repair products were also installed, as the remaining, smaller crawl space area was encapsulated in CrawlSeal liner. Several IntelliJacks were also installed to reinforce and stabilize the floors above the newer basement. The homeowners were excited to have this project completed, and that they can enjoy this larger living space for many more years to come.
A Crawl Space in Delaware, OH, is Waterproofed and Stabilized
After recently moving into her house, a homeowner in Delaware, OH, noticed there was an unhealthy crawl space under the house. Water was seeping into this area, and the beam supports were beginning to fail, causing unlevel floors. She wanted to correct these issues before they worsened and caused additional damage, so she contacted Ohio Basement Authority. We installed the CrawlDrain drainage system to intercept any seeping water and drain it to the SafeDri sump pump that was also installed. This reliable sump pump will pump the water out of and away from the home through a discharge line. A FreezeGuard was attached to the exterior discharge line to prevent flooding from a blocked or frozen line. IntelliJacks were also installed to help support the failing beams. The homeowner was excited to have these permanent solutions installed, and she could tell an immediate difference in the floors because of the IntelliJack installation. Basement Waterproofing in Ostrander, OH
A home in Ostrander, OH, had water that was beginning to enter a walk-out basement door. Also, water was not able to drain from the roof and perimeter drain fast enough during heavy rains. The basement had inner and outer perimeter drains with natural drainage. After having water in the entire basement, the homeowners decided they needed professional help. A certified inspector from Ohio Basement Authority came in and determined the best route for fixing these problems. After this was decided, the installation crew came in and began by installing a SafeDri Super Sump pump including a SafeDri battery backup. This is a high-powered sump pump system which can pump 2,200 gallons of water per hour. The SafeDri provides backup and keeps the sump pump working in the event of a power outage. Next, they installed several new discharge lines to give all the water the homeowners were experiencing a place to go. One line led to an existing city catch basin, and two lines led to new YardWell Outlets in the yard. These outlets let water out onto the surface while camouflaging the end of the buried pipe and eliminating tripping and lawnmower hazards. The homeowners are happy with the results and no longer have to worry about their basement flooding.

The inspector established that these issues were due to foundation failure. The installation crew came in and installed nine carbon fiber straps and four IntelliBrace supports to re-stabilize the effected walls. Carbon Fiber is a material that is almost impossible to stretch due to its high tensile strength, which is resistance to break under tension. It can be adhered to concrete walls to keep them from bending or bowing further inward. The IntelliBrace supports are zinc-plated steel beams which are custom-fit to the wall height and secured with brackets anchored to the basement floor. These can be tightened over time to reverse wall failure. The homeowners are comforted knowing that these reliable repairs will keep their foundation sturdy and supported for years to come.

Egress Window Improves Safety, Appearance of a Home in Sunbury, OH
He has lived in his house since it was built 14 years ago, but a homeowner in Sunbury, OH, wanted to start to use his newly-finished basement as livable space. Certain improvements needed to be completed before doing so. The International Code for One-and Two-Family Dwellings states that habitable spaces – including basements – must have at least one operational emergency escape or means of egress. The specific area he wanted to utilize in his basement had two small windows that did not meet the residential code requirement, so an egress window was needed. The homeowners contacted Ohio Basement Authority, and we upgraded the smaller windows into a functional egress window. Once the existing windows were removed, our crew excavated the area outside the windows and carefully cut into the block foundation wall to make room for the newer, bigger window. The all-vinyl frame of the new window is rust-resistant, and the window’s double-pane glass is energy-efficient. A lightly-colored window well installed outside the window allows more sunlight to enter the basement and brighten up the space. A durable clear cover attached to the well for safety also keeps leaves, debris and precipitation out of the window well. The homeowner is happy to now have an updated basement window system that enhances the safety and appearance of his home.

I chose to work with Ohio Basement Authority because of the inspector’s good listening, a thorough evaluation of the property, multiple solutions and a relatively reasonable price.

Clark was great. He listened to my concerns, offered his solution and didn’t continue to discuss things that I didn’t feel I needed.

The crew was very courteous. Their clean-up wasn’t spotless, but considering what had to be done I thought it was very good. Jose and Chris spent a significant amount of time covering everything, with extra covering over our gym equipment. I made a special request for this, and Clark did a good job of communicating that to the crew.

We were satisfied with the inspector’s presentation, and we chose to work with Ohio Basement Authority because of the cost and thoroughness in explaining the work that was recommended. The office staff also was willing to work with us to establish a schedule for performing the work.

Everyone with the crew was quite professional and courteous, and I was pleased with the final cleanup. I especially appreciated their recommendation to keep the dehumidifier turned off for about a week to allow for slow drying of the concrete covering on the drain system.

We chose to work with Ohio Basement Authority because of the unique technology used to fix our problem.

Andy Kennedy had a thorough but not pushy approach with examples of previous installs. He also was very thorough in developing a plan. His follow-up was excellent, as we had some install delays.

I had two different install dates and two fine crews.

Alex, Martin and Alonso were very courteous. And Larry and Logan were a crew to fight for. They went above and beyond to finish the install. If I had a business and wanted my best crew out there, it would be them.

I’ve seen Ohio Basement Authority on TV and neighborhood signs, and I chose to work with the company because of the staff’s professionalism and honesty.

Corey was helpful in answering our questions and gave us an informative presentation so we could make our decision to use you as our contractor for our basement needs.

The crew called about an hour before arrival to let us know they were on their way, and they arrived within the time frame that was set. They were very friendly and courteous during the whole process, and answered any questions that we had.

I have to commend your crew on their expertise and professionalism. They were top-notch, including your office staff and inspector, Corey. Good job!

I’ve seen your TV ads, as well as you out doing jobs for other people in the neighborhood. I then chose to work with you because you appeared to be a reliable company and the price seemed fair.

The office staff was very helpful. I talked to someone at the office several times, and they always seemed very professional. The inspector I met with also seemed to be knowledgeable and a very nice person. He’s a representative to be proud of.

The crew was 15 to 30 minutes early, got right to work, and seemed to be a very nice group. They did a good job cleaning up. You could hardly tell they had been here.

So far, your company seems to be an outstanding organization I can speak highly of. You really impressed me. Rest assured, I will recommend your company to anyone that might need your service.

Brendan Kent was extremely knowledgeable and an asset to your company. I would recommend him to anyone.

Rich and his crew were outstanding. He always seemed to go over and above to satisfy our needs and concerns. I would highly recommend him. You should know that he is quite the salesperson for you also.

The company representative I first met with was very professional, and I chose to work with Ohio Basement Authority because of the sales pitch and price.

I was only going to have the Carbon Fiber put on my walls, but Rich pointed out that water was in my block walls. He explained to me what could happen if this is not taken care of. He convinced me to have it done, so I agreed to a partial drain system.

The inspector I met with was very thorough and his presentation was easy to understand.

I chose to work with Ohio Basement Authority because you offer solid crawl space insulation, which is exactly what I wanted, as opposed to just a spray. And your staff communicated extremely well and was kept to the set schedule. There was no waiting and wondering for the customer.

This was a very positive experience; from the sales staff, to the office staff, to the insulation team. Everyone was very courteous, timely, efficient and clean.

We’ve heard about Ohio Basement Authority through radio and TV ads, and the company also was recommended by our realtor in Delaware County. We chose to work with you because of your quality of service.

The inspector was knowledgeable and professional, and we were impressed by the crew! Ryan, Colin and Nate worked as a team! Ryan’s leadership was obvious and respected by the team members. Later, John and Andy arrived to pitch in. Amazing teamwork.

I saw Ohio Basement Authority at the Columbus Dispatch Home and Garden Show, and I’ve heard their ads on 610AM. I chose to work with the company because I had talked with Stephen Davis a couple of times before. He seemed honest and easy to deal with. The unique repair method also seemed like the way to go.

Stephen was great to deal with. He listened to what I wanted, then showed me how I could make the best use of my money on the project.

The installation crew called first, of course. They showed up earlier than I expected, which worked out really well for my schedule. We got my truck out of their way, then they got right to work. I was able to watch them get started, which was interesting, then I was able to write them the payoff check and head into work. I think the area was cleaner when they left than when they arrived.

I am really pleased with the work that was done. This was a small job, but important to me. I know I have a safer home that my 80-year-old parents can safely navigate.

We met two very nice ladies at the Ohio Expo. They were the nicest, easy to talk with and professional than most other booths we stopped at that day. Very helpful and great experience.

Jeff who came to the house was very nice and knowledgeable. Again very easy to talk with and felt I could trust him. You have the right people in the right roles. Great experience.

We chose to work with Ohio Basement Authority because of your people and the price. The experience of working with Jeff was a pleasure and trusting. It is something to be appreciated and vital to the decision. You were competitive on price as well.

The crew was very friendly and exceeded expectations. They also left the area better than they found it. I couldn't have asked for better. They were hard working, focused and on top of getting the job done. There is that little bit of uncertainty and worry of who will actually be doing the work when you bring a company into your home, but as soon as they arrived that worry was gone. They were friendly, made sure to introduce themselves and made the time to talk through the details. I was impressed.

It is not often you receive a flawless experience when trying to have someone come in to do work at your house. Every step of the process (inquiry/scheduling, sale/estimate, communication, and installation) was done with excellence. Ohio Basement Authority seems to have learned from their many years of experience to just about perfect their way of doing business and it shows. Kudos and thanks to everyone. I'm looking forward to getting to use my basement now that the repairs have been made.

We used Ohio Basement Authority for a radon mitigation system in our old house, and we initially decided to work with the company because of the positive reviews on Home Advisor, etc.

This time working with them, Patrick was very helpful when dealing with a setback regarding permitting for our egress window.

The crew was great. We asked them to start at 6:30 a.m. the first day due to the permitting setback, and they arrived promptly. They also texted pictures of the process of the install throughout the day.

Larry and Dave who did most of the work were a pleasure to talk to. They could not have been nicer and more professional. I really appreciated them answering all my questions, letting me see the work and explaining what they were doing. The estimate of time to job completion was spot-on too. They also took great pains not to damage the lawn, etc., if they did not have to.
