After living in their house for a few years, homeowners in Lewis Center, OH, began to seriously question the health and safety of their home. They wondered if radon was present and affecting their living environment.
Radon, a naturally occurring gas, is produced by the decay of uranium in rocks and soil. It is a colorless, odorless and tasteless gas that can be found in homes across the globe. Radon also is extremely dangerous. Along with being a leading cause of lung cancer, prolonged exposure to radon, especially in high levels, has been linked to more than 20,000 annual deaths.
All of these factors greatly concerned the homeowners, so they decided to have their home tested for radon. The results revealed their home’s average radon level was 4.2 picocuries per liter (pCi/L). This is just slightly above the level at which the Environmental Protection Agency recommends mitigating radon, which is 4 pCi/L.
After they heard about Ohio Basement Authority and our radon mitigation services, the owners were eager to contact us to learn more about how we could help them. They met with one of our inspectors who reviewed the radon test results with them, as well as our company’s mitigation procedures.

Ventilation pipes were attached to this hole and then directed to the home’s exterior. There, the pipes connected to a ventilation fan unit that was mounted to the side of the house. Additional pipes were then extended past the home’s roof for safe and effective radon expulsion. A domed and sealed lid also was placed on the sump pump system to prevent radon intrusion from that location.
The homeowners are pleased this reliable solution was installed to help them create a safe and healthy home.
Excited to live in a newly built house, homeowners in Granville, OH, wanted to ensure the long-term health and safety of their living environment. After speaking to a trusted loved one who recently had work completed by Ohio Basement Authority, the homeowners realized their radon mitigation system may not be effective.
Mitigating the naturally occurring radon gas that is extremely hazardous is very important to the homeowners. Radon has been linked to more than 20,000 deaths each year, and it is the second leading cause of lung cancer. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends mitigating for radon when radon levels are above 4 picocuries per liter (pCi/L).
The homeowners were alarmed when we tested their home and the results indicated the home’s levels ranged from 50 to 54 pCi/L. We then installed a proper radon mitigation system by removing the older system and sealing the existing suction point. Two new suction points were created in the vast basement’s concrete slab floor to suck the radon gas from inside the home. PVC pipes connected to the suction points were directed to the attic to a ventilation fan and through the roof for the proper exhaust of the radon gas.
