Job Stories From New Bremen, OH
Updated Exterior Drainage System Will Help Keep a Home Dry in New Bremen, OH
The owner of a duplex in New Bremen, OH, recently started to notice a problem with the building. Water seemed to leak inside the crawl space in the same area where gutter downspouts were located on the home’s exterior. The owner wanted to make sure the entire home would be safe and dry, so he began to research potential repair options. After finding information about Ohio Basement Authority online, he was eager to contact us to learn more about how we could help him. He met with one of our inspectors who recommended replacing the exterior drainage system. One of our crews then installed new reliable downspout conductor lines on the property. These lines were placed in the ground and directed far enough away from the home’s foundation so water from the lines would not seep into the home. YardWell outlets also were used to camouflage the ends of the lines in the yard. The owner is pleased to have an updated exterior drainage system that will help keep the home dry.
Mitigating Elevated Radon Levels in New Bremen, OH
They have lived in their house since it was built almost 40 years ago, but it wasn’t until recently that homeowners in New Bremen, OH, began to worry about the health of their home. They wondered if radon could be affecting their living environment. Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that is produced by the decay of uranium in rocks and soil. It is colorless, odorless and tasteless, making it virtually impossible to detect without the proper testing. Radon also is a health hazard. Exposure to this gas has been linked to more than 20,000 annual deaths, and it is the second leading cause of lung cancer. All of these factors concerned the homeowners, so they had their home tested for radon. They were shocked when the results indicated their home’s average radon levels fell in the 15 to 20 picocuries per liter (pCi/L) range. This is approximately four to five times higher than the level at which the Environmental Protection Agency recommends mitigating radon, which is 4 pCi/L. After learning more about Ohio Basement Authority, the homeowners were eager to contact us for assistance with creating a healthier home. We installed a radon mitigation system in their home by creating a suction point in the basement’s concrete slab floor to draw the radon out of the home. PVC pipe connected to this suction point was directed through the attic and past the roof to safely expel the radon gas. The crawl space was encapsulated in CrawlSeal liner, and a domed and sealed lid was placed on the sump pump to prevent radon from entering the home through these locations. The homeowners now have peace of mind knowing these reliable installation projects have helped them create a healthier living environment that they will be able to enjoy for many years to come.
Radon Mitigation in New Bremen, OH
After living in their house for 16 years, homeowners in New Bremen, OH, began to wonder exactly how healthy and safe their home was. They wondered if radon was present and affecting their living environment. Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that is produced by the decay of uranium in soil and rocks. It cannot be seen, smelled or tasted, and it is extremely hazardous. Exposure to radon gas has been linked to more than 20,000 annual deaths, and it is the second leading cause of lung cancer. These factors greatly concerned the homeowners, and they wanted to address these issues right away. They were eager to contact Ohio Basement Authority for assistance after finding information about our company online. They met with one of our inspectors who reviewed our company’s mitigation procedures with them. The owners were equally excited for one of our crews to install a radon mitigation system. This involved drilling a hole into the basement floor to create a suction point to draw radon from the house. Ventilation pipes were attached to this hole and directed into the attached garage and into the attic. There, the pipes connected to a ventilation fan, and additional pipes were extended through the roof to safely expel radon from the house. The sump pump also was sealed with a domed lid to prevent radon intrusion through the pit. The homeowners are pleased to have a reliable system to help lower the home’s radon levels as much as possible so their living environment will be a safer and healthier one.

I’ve seen Ohio Basement Authority’s trucks, and I chose to work with the company because of the solution offered. The parts used seemed well-designed and built.

The inspector I met with was professional, presented the problem clearly, and there was no pressure.

The crew always called advising of their ETA. They made certain we were aware of what was being done at each step of the process. They were very courteous.
