Basement Waterproofing and Crawl Space Encapsulation Create a Healthier Home in Newark, OH
Homeowners in Newark, OH, have been dealing with a damp, wet basement since they moved into their house 10 years ago. The home was built in the late 1800s, so it’s only natural for a house of that age to have some issues. The homeowners want to sell the house to their son, but they’d like to address the problematic basement before they do so. They began to research repair companies and solutions online, then they contacted Ohio Basement Authority after seeing our page on the Better Business Bureau website. Basements in older homes like this can be a challenge to waterproof because of how the foundation and foundation walls were constructed. But we met this challenge head-on to provide the perfect permanent solution for the homeowners. We installed the sub-floor BasementGutter interior drainage system to intercept any seeping water and drain it to the SafeDri Prox sump pump. The SafeDri Prox then pumps the water safely out of the home and away from the foundation through a discharge line. A FreezeGuard was attached to the exterior sump pump discharge line. The CrawlSeal Wall System was used to cover the damp wall and prevent vapor and moisture intrusion into the rest of the basement. CrawlSeal also was used to encapsulate the partial crawl space. ExTremeBloc panels were placed on the crawl space walls to assist with insulation. The owners now have peace of mind knowing the home will be a healthier living environment because these reliable products were installed.

After living in her house for several years, a homeowner in Newark, OH, knew it was time to address some lingering problems. Water leaked into the basement through the walls and floor, and there were some floor joists in the partial crawl space that contributed to sagging floors. Any leaking water will be intercepted by the BasementGutter and grated drainage systems in the floor, and this water is directed to the SafeDri to be pumped out of the home. Additionally, the stone walls were covered with CrawlSeal liner to improve their appearance and assist with waterproofing. Supplemental steel beams were placed under the problematic floor joists in the crawl space, and these beams were further reinforced by IntelliJacks. These heavy-duty jacks permanently stabilize the above floor and floor joists, can lift and level the floor, and are designed to stop sagging and settlement. The homeowner is pleased to now have a safe and stable home because of these trustworthy repairs.

Egress Window Enhances Safety, Appearance of a Home in Newark, OH
After living in their house for many years, homeowners in Newark, OH, wanted to transform a section of their basement into livable space. Before doing so, they knew certain improvements needed to be completed. According to the International Code for One-and Two-Family Dwellings, habitable spaces must have at least one operational emergency escape or means of egress. This also is applicable to basements. This particular area of the basement had a small window that did not meet the residential code requirements. An egress window was needed. The homeowners contacted Ohio Basement Authority after learning more about our company through online resources like Home Advisor, and we then upgraded this small, unusable window into a functional egress window. After removing the existing window, the crew excavated the area outside the window and carefully cut into the block foundation wall to make room for the newer, bigger window. The all-vinyl frame of the new window is rust-resistant, and the window’s double-pane glass is energy-efficient. A lightly-colored window well installed outside the window allows more sunlight to enter the basement and brighten up the space. A durable clear cover attached to the well for safety also keeps leaves, debris and precipitation out of the window well. The homeowners are excited to have an updated basement window system that enhances the safety and appearance of their home.

After living in their house for several years, homeowners in Newark, OH, began to consider the health and safety of their home. They noticed the basement, some of which is used as office space, had a musty odor, and they were concerned with the small windows. After seeing Ohio Basement Authority’s TV ads, the owners were eager to contact us for further guidance. They met with one of our inspectors who suggested having one of our reliable dehumidifiers installed in the basement. Considering the function of the basement, our inspector also recommended having an egress window installed. The International Residential Code states that all habitable spaces, including basements, are required to have at least one operational emergency escape or means of egress. The owners were then eager for our crews to install these solutions. After carefully excavating the area outside where the new window was to be installed, one of our crews carefully cut into the block foundation wall to make room for the new window. The window’s all-vinyl frame is rust-resistant, and its double-pane glass is energy-efficient. A lightly-colored window well was installed outside the window, which allows more natural light into the basement. A durable clear cover was attached to the well to enhance safety as well as keep leaves, debris and precipitation out of the window well. Enhancing a Home's Health with Radon Mitigation in Newark, OH
The future resale of their house got homeowners in Newark, OH, to thinking about how healthy and safe their home really was. They didn’t want any significant dangers to affect their quality of life or their ability to sell the home. Along with various repair projects to tackle in the meantime, the owners wanted to address any potential radon in the house. Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can be found in homes across the globe. It is very hazardous, as it is a leading cause of lung cancer and it has been linked to more than 20,000 annual deaths. The owners were shocked to learn their home’s radon levels were 12 picocuries per liter (pCi/L), which is three times higher than the Environmental Protection Agency’s radon action level of 4 pCi/L. They wanted to lower the home’s radon level as much as possible, and they eagerly contacted Ohio Basement Authority for further guidance after learning about our company. One of our inspectors visited to review the radon test results with the owners, as well as our company’s mitigation procedures. One of our crews then installed a radon mitigation system in the home to lower the radon levels as much as possible by drawing this gas from the home and ventilating it outdoors. A domed and sealed lid also was placed on the sump pump system in the basement to prevent radon intrusion through this location. Mitigating Elevated Radon Levels in Newark, OH
After recently moving into her house, a homeowner in Newark, OH, wanted to complete various projects to ensure her home’s health and safety. This included addressing the presence of radon. Radon is a naturally occurring gas that is produced by the decay of uranium in soil and rocks. It is colorless, odorless, and tasteless, making it virtually impossible to detect without the proper testing. This radioactive gas also is extremely dangerous. Exposure to radon has been linked to more than 20,000 yearly deaths, and it is the second leading cause of lung cancer. This alarmed the homeowner, so she had her home tested for radon. She was even more concerned when the test results indicated her home’s radon level was 36 picocuries per liter (pCi/L). This is nine times higher than the level at which the Environmental Protection Agency recommends mitigating radon, which is 4 pCi/L. Hoping to find a permanent solution to this issue, the homeowner began to research companies that would be able to assist her. She contacted Ohio Basement Authority after learning more about our company online, and we installed a radon mitigation system in her home. This involved creating suction points to draw radon out of the home. We did this by drilling holes into the concrete floor of the attached garage and crawl space. PVC pipe was attached to these holes and directed through the attic. A fan was mounted to the pipe within the attic to ventilate the radon gas up through more pipe that was extended through the roof. The homeowner now has peace of mind knowing this reliable repair solution has helped her create a safer and healthier living environment.
Mitigating High Radon Levels for a Home's Health and Safety in Newark, OH
As a homeowner in Newark, OH, prepared to sell her house, she knew she needed to address various repair projects around the home to enhance its health, safety and resale value. It cannot be seen, smelled or tasted, but this gas is extremely dangerous. It is a leading cause of lung cancer, and it has been linked to upwards of 20,000 annual deaths. When selling a house, it is important to test for and disclose the radon level. The owner was shocked at the test results – 35 picocuries per liter, which is more than eight times higher than the Environmental Protection Agency’s radon action level of 4 pCi/L. The owner found information about Ohio Basement Authority online, along with our website, and she wanted to contact us to learn more about how we could help her. She met with one of our inspectors who reviewed the radon test results with her, as well as our company’s mitigation procedures. One of our crews then installed a radon mitigation system in the home to help lower the radon levels as much as possible. This was done by drilling a hole into the basement floor to draw radon from the house. Ventilation pipes were connected to this hole and directed to the home’s exterior. There, the pipe connected to a fan unit mounted to the side of the house. Additional pieces of ventilation pipe were attached to the top of the fan and directed up the side of the house and past the roof to safety and effectively expel radon from the house. The former homeowner, as well as the new owners, are pleased to now have a safer and healthier living environment because of this reliable repair solution.

Radon Mitigation in Newark, OH

After living there for three years, homeowners in Newark, OH decided to test their home for radon. As more and more statistics and health concerns arise in the realm of radon, these homeowners chose to take the next step toward making their 51 year-old home a safer one.

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas found throughout the country. It is produced by the decay of uranium in rocks and soils, and is colorless, odorless, and tasteless. This lack of sensory detection makes it even more of a health hazard. Exposure to radon gas has been linked to more than 20,000 deaths per year, and it is the second leading cause of lung cancer.

For this Newark home, the radon test showed levels between 9-11 pCi/L (picocuries per liter) — more than double the EPA’s suggested action level of 4 pCi/L. To lower these troubling levels, we installed a radon mitigation system which will reduce the levels by more than 50%.

The homeowners can now have peace of mind knowing that these reliable repairs will make their home a healthier and safer place to live.
Radon Mitigation System Helps Create a Healthier Home in Newark, OH

A new homeowner was excited to move into her new house in Newark, OH. She would like to make this house her forever home, so maintaining a healthy living environment is very important to her.

She was concerned with the levels of radon in the home, so she contacted the experts at Ohio Basement Authority to help her address this issue.

Radon is a colorless, odorless gas that is common throughout the country, especially in Ohio. It is a product of decaying uranium in rocks and soil. It also is a hazardous gas that results in more than 20,000 deaths each year, and is the second-leading cause of lung cancer.

Radon mitigation systems are strongly recommended in homes with radon levels above 4 pCi/L (picocuries per liter). The results in the new homeowner’s house were 37 pCi/L.

This alarmed the owner, but we were able to quickly install a radon mitigation system to safely pull radon from the house and ventilate it outside. We also replaced the sump pump’s lid with a sealed and domed lid to prevent radon from escaping.

The owner now has peace of mind knowing these installations have helped her create a healthier home she will be able to enjoy for many years to come.

Radon Mitigation System Helps Create a Healthier Longtime Home for a New Homeowner in Newark, OH

After recently moving into his house, a homeowner in Newark, OH, wanted to make sure his longtime home would be a safe and healthy living environment. He was concerned with the level of radon in his home, and wanted to take steps to make sure these levels were as low as possible.

Radon is a naturally occurring gas that is colorless, odorless and tasteless. It is produced by the decay of uranium in rocks and soil, and it is present across the country. This gas is very hazardous, however. Exposure to radon has been linked to more than 20,000 deaths every year, and it is the second-leading cause of lung cancer.

Radon mitigation systems are strongly recommended in homes with radon levels at or above 4 pCi/L (picocuries per liter). The homeowner contacted Ohio Basement Authority, and the 48-hour test that we conducted in his home indicated the levels of radon ranged from 27 to 35 pCi/L.

We then installed a radon mitigation system in the owner’s home to safely pull the radon gas from the house and ventilate it outside. This involved cutting a hole in the basement’s slab floor to create a suction point. PVC pipe was then connected to this hole and directed to the home’s exterior. A fan was placed on the outside of the home to help ventilate the radon out of the home.

The owner was pleased this reliable system was installed in his home so it will be a healthier place for him to live for many years to come.

A friend who is a satisfied Ohio Basement Authority customer recommended you. I’ve also seen your TV ads.

The inspector did a great job of explaining everything. He was courteous and represented your company well. The crews were wonderful. I could not believe how much work three people could accomplish in one day!

Prior to contracting with you to do work, I had seen your truck in the neighborhood. I then met with Jeff Floit, who was knowledgeable, courteous, helpful in choosing a solution, and excellent on follow-up.

I chose your company because of the knowledge of Jeff Floit, the lower cost, and a better, more comprehensive solution.

I’ve had two contracts for work with you over the past two months, and both crews were excellent.

The company representative we first met with was very thorough and polite. He went through all of our options, and we felt very confident that we were making the right choices for our home.

Travis was very professional and gave a great presentation, explaining all the options and advantages of your system. A friend had a bad experience with another company, so after Travis’ presentation I didn’t feel the need to talk to any other company.

The installation crew called in advance to let me know they were on their way. They checked with me before leaving to make sure I was happy with the cleanup.

The entire experience was wonderful from start to finish. I was very impressed with everyone I came in contact with, and their work was fantastic.

Travis was professional and knowledgeable. He answered my questions in a respectful manner.

All members of the crew were professional. They fully explained what they were doing and how the drainage system they installed would work. Excellent job! There’s no evidence that they had even been here, except for the wet cement.

From start to finish, your representative and crew made this a positive experience! Even better, this has been an extremely wet few days and I can see/hear the sump pump and drainage system doing their job to keep my basement dry. THANK YOU!!!

The inspector I met with did a great job selling your product, answering questions, and assuring me that the job would be done right the first time. He was the key for us to decide to go with your company. We also liked the price, and you quoted nearly half the price of your competitors.

The office staff was also courteous and helpful. When I called about credit, the gentleman was very helpful and made sure I was first priority. He walked me through the online process and was able to complete my payment.

The installation crew was great! They arrived on time, were very personable, and had a great attitude. They also did a great job cleaning up, and the area looked better than when they started!

When Mark H. was trying to sell his house in Johnstown, OH, he knew that the crawl space with its structural problems would render the property quite difficult, if not impossible to sell. During the process of putting the house on the market, a home inspector came to take a look at the problem. He recommended that Mark should have it fixed as soon as possible, and referred him to Ohio Basement Authority. Mark was very impressed with the options offered by the company to safely and effectively restore the structural integrity of the foundation with specialized crawl space jacks called IntelliJacks. To expedite the process so that Mark could sell his property quickly, Ohio Basement Authority was willing to perform all the work in the middle of the winter and under cold temperatures. Mark was very grateful for that. The home sold shortly after the repairs were finished. The new owner, Will C., is also very happy because he bought a home with brand new foundation work that is backed by a Transferable Lifetime Warranty. He will have the peace of mind of knowing the crawl space is structurally safe for as long as the house stands!

I am very happy with the work that was done, and the crew that did the work. They were all very professional, considerate, and kept me informed about everything they were doing.

I have noticed a big difference in the humidity in the house. I have had no condensation on my windows at all, even with the cold temps we have had this winter. What a difference! I do believe that it is helping to keep the house warmer, and will help in the summer to keep the house cooler and humidity down.

I just wanted to let you know that I was very happy with all you did, and all the help you and the guys who worked on my project did. My experience with your company has been great, and I would recommend your company to anyone who is having crawl space issues.

We feel compelled to write you regarding our recent experience with your company. Mainly the words professional, integrity and solid product come to mind. We live in Granville and our lot sits low. We built this home 21 years ago and have two sump wells, which we have maintained throughout the years. We've only had water in our 2,500 square foot, unfinished basement once, and that was enough. The original pumps were Zoeller.  After eight years or so, they wore out and we began the 13-year flurry of sump pump “hell.” We went through many products and many exchanges and replacements of battery back-ups. We are diligent about checking battery charge/water levels and replacing pumps/switches at the first sign of any system distress. We are "in tune" with what is going on in our basement. We travel a lot and want confidence that we won't come home to a disaster. We have endured several extended power outages – some lasting 7 to 10 days – where we have had back-up batteries attached to our back-up battery. We even ran back and forth to a truck stop to keep those charged through these outages. We were weary and lacked confidence in our efforts. Our ultimate goal was to put the SafeDri Triple Sump product in the main sump pump well and move the other battery back-up system to the second sump pump well. We finally have accomplished that goal. We had looked at it for years with another company, then attended the remodel expo this past winter and found it at Ohio Basement Authority’s booth. Then Corey came out and made a thorough and professional presentation, and we set up an installation date. The crew members were professional, hard-working, respectful of our home, and put in an entire 8-hour day to install our new system and move the other back-up battery. They totally cleaned up their work area and disposed all debris. Even though there were several "snafus" that surfaced immediately afterward, this is where your staff really shined! Our older back-up battery alarm began beeping the very next day in clear, sunny, dry weather. We called your office and, on a Saturday, Brian came out to fix the float switch. The next day, the new SafeDri Triple Sump began to beep. That Monday, I called Brandie and Jeff, and they handled it with immediate consideration and true empathy and sent Brian back out that very day. He troubleshot that evening on the new system for three more hours. He then returned two days later and reworked the install. It has been operating as expected ever since. Brian provided the complete confidence and thorough explanations we expected and needed. We felt he knew exactly what he was doing and he did it! Brian is terrific! In this case, all your staff made us feel like all that was really important was that everything was done properly and attended to as soon as possible. We never felt like we were going to be “hung out.” For these reasons, we feel that you and your company will be there for us in the operation of this product, and that we made the right choice. We always knew that the SafeDri Triple Sump was the way we wanted to go, but the install and warranty is the most important part of the story. You should be proud and really value the people who work on your behalf. They represent you well!
