Improving the Health of a Home in Powell, OH, with Radon Mitigation and Crawl Space Encapsulation
Upon moving into their house, homeowners in Powell, OH, wanted to make sure the home would be healthy and safe. They were concerned with what the home’s radon levels could be. Radon is a colorless, odorless, tasteless gas that is produced by uranium decay in rocks and soil. It is naturally occurring and it present across the country. However, radon gas is extremely hazardous. Exposure to radon has been linked to more than 20,000 deaths per year, and it is a leading cause of lung cancer. Radon is particularly dangerous to smokers and former smokers. The homeowners contacted Ohio Basement Authority after learning more about our company online, and we tested the house for radon. The results indicated the home’s radon levels were approximately 10 pCi/L (picocuries per liter). This is more than double the level at which mitigation systems are recommended for homes, which is 4 pCi/L. The owners were eager for us to install a radon mitigation system in their new home. This involved creating suction points to pull radon from out of the home. One suction point was created in the floor of the partial crawl space adjacent to the basement, and a hole was drilled into the basement’s concrete slab floor to create the other suction point. PVC pipe is connected to these holes and directed to the home’s exterior. An exterior fan also is installed to help ventilate the radon gas out of the home. A domed and sealed lid also was placed on the basement’s existing sump pump to prevent radon from infiltrating the home through the system. The homeowners also were concerned with the partial crawl space, so we waterproofed it with the CrawlDrain drainage system and SafeDri sump pump. We also encapsulated the crawl space in CrawlSeal liner. This durable liner serves as a moisture and vapor barrier that also helps insulate the crawl space. The appearance of the crawl space and basement also is improved by the bright white liner. The homeowners now have peace of mind knowing these many reliable repair solutions have helped them create a safer and healthier forever home.
Basement Waterproofing and Foundation Repair in Lucasville, OH
Not long after moving into her house, a new homeowner in Lucasville, OH, noticed some glaring issues in the house. Water leaked into the basement every time it rained, resulting in small puddles or a complete flood depending on how much rain fell. The homeowner wanted to fix this problem before any serious damage resulted. She began to research how to best address the issue, and she contacted Ohio Basement Authority after finding information about Ohio Basement Authority online. She was eager to meet with one of our inspectors to learn more about how we could help her. The inspector evaluated the condition of the leaking basement, and he also pointed out two foundation walls that were starting to crack. He then recommended some of our reliable basement waterproofing and foundation repair solutions. One of our crews stabilized the potentially failing foundation walls by installing Carbon Fiber supports on them. These sturdy supports firmly adhere to the walls to hold them in their current positions. Not only do they permanently reinforce the walls where they are installed, they also help prevent any further cracking or inward bowing. The basement was then waterproofed with the BasementGutter interior drainage system and SafeDri Triple sump pump. The sub-floor BasementGutter system intercepts any leaking water from the walls and floor. This water is then directed to the trustworthy SafeDri Triple sump pump and pumped out of the basement. A dehumidifier also was installed to help clean and filter the air, control moisture and humidity, reduce odors and eliminate the potential for mold growth. The homeowner now has peace of mind knowing these trustworthy repairs have helped her create a healthier living environment that she will be able to enjoy for many years to come.
Basement Waterproofing and Foundation Repair in Portsmouth, OH
As they moved into their house, new homeowners in Portsmouth, OH, noticed some issues they wanted to address. Water intrusion and damage were obvious, as were cracks on one of the foundation walls. While searching for the best repair options, the homeowners came across Ohio Basement Authority’s information on Angie’s List. They were eager to contact us and meet with one of our inspectors. After assessing the condition of the leaking, cracking basement, our inspector recommended our reliable basement waterproofing and foundation repair solutions. We installed the BasementGutter interior drainage system and two SafeDri sump pumps to keep the large basement dry. Any water intercepted by the BasementGutter system is directed to the SafeDri and then pumped out of the basement and away from the home’s foundation. FreezeGuards were attached to the exterior sump pump discharge lines, and a YardWell outlet was used to camouflage the end of one of these lines in the yard. Several IntelliBrace beams also were installed to permanently stabilize the cracking, tilting wall. These unique beams can be adjusted during dry seasons to improve the wall’s condition. The homeowners are pleased these trustworthy solutions were installed to help them create a safe and healthy living environment.

Fixing Basement Flooding in Wheelersburg, OH
Homeowners in Wheelersburg, OH, began experiencing flooding in their basement despite having a drainage system installed by another waterproofing contractor. This space was primarily used for clothes, crafting, and holiday decorate storage, so it was not an ideal place for dampness. They called Ohio Basement Authority in to assess and repair the problem. One of our inspectors visited the home and determined that they needed to replace the existing French drains, install a SafeDri Pro X, and add Carbon Fiber supports to mend the structural issues he found in the crawl space. The homeowners agreed to these suggestions and the project was ready to begin. Our production crew first put in the SafeDri Pro X system with an added SafeDri battery back-up pumping system with charging box, alarm, and 120 amp sealed maintenance-free battery. Then, they installed the BasementGutter sub-floor drainage system under the concrete basement floor. They drilled weep holes in every core of every block to prevent water from building up behind the walls. This water will drain into the BasementGutter system below. They placed gravel around the drainage and replaced the concrete which was removed from the basement floor. The homeowners are happy with the results, and are no longer afraid to continue using their basement for storage.
Helical Piers Stabilize a Tilting Chimney in West Portsmouth, OH
After living in their house for 10 years, homeowners in West Portsmouth, OH, started to notice a glaring problem with their exterior foundation. The home’s chimney was starting to tip and pull away from the rest of the house. This is one of the more dramatic and troubling signs of foundation settlement, and it greatly concerned the homeowners. They started to research how to best address this problem, and they contacted Ohio Basement Authority after learning more about our company and repair services through our website. After meeting with one of our inspectors, the homeowners were equally excited for one of our crews to install the perfect solution. We installed two Helical Piers underneath the chimney. These durable galvanized steel piers were mechanically driven down to competent soil and attached to heavy-duty foundation brackets on the home’s footing. These piers permanently stabilize the chimney, help prevent further settlement, and offer the best opportunity to lift the settling section back to level. The homeowners now have peace of mind knowing this trustworthy solution has helped them create a safer living environment.
Lifting a Sinking Foundation in Lucasville, OH
Foundation failure has the untrue reputation of being something that is normal that "just happens." Homeowners in Lucasville, OH, realized that their foundation problems were not normal when they keep worsening over the years. After four years of neglect, the corner of their brick home had pulled away from the house and showed large, gaping cracks. They were also experiencing cracks along the inside windows frames. They worried day and night about their safety, so they contacted us to set up a free inspection and estimate. One of our certified inspectors went to the home and explained that steel push piers would be the best solution to the problem. The soil under this section of the home was no longer able to support the weight of it. These push piers are made of steel and are driven deep into the soil to bedrock or another more stable layer. Push piers provide the opportunity to lift a home back toward its original position, which often closes cracks and improves any window or door operation issues. A skilled production crew installed five push piers, and the home was returned to near-normal. The homeowners are happy with the repair, and are no longer kept up at night worrying about the structural integrity of their home.

A homeowner in Minford, OH, thought she had her leaking basement taken care of years ago, but the finished area of her home still had seeping water. She noticed water collecting in one of the corners, and she wanted to address this problem before any serious damage occurred. She contacted Ohio Basement Authority after learning more about our company online, and we installed some of our most reliable basement waterproofing products. These included the BasementGutter interior drainage system and SafeDri Super sump pump. BasementGutter sits in the sub-floor and intercepts any seeping water from the walls and floor. IntelliBrace System Stabilizes Garage Wall in Portsmouth, OH
A homeowner in Portsmouth, OH, recently began to notice one of the foundation walls in the garage of his bi-level house was cracking and bowing inward. He was concerned with the structural integrity of the wall, and hoped to find a permanent solution to stabilize it. He contacted Ohio Basement Authority, and one of our expert crews installed the IntelliBrace System. A total of five heavy-duty, zinc-plated steel beams were tightly secured against the problematic wall. These beams will stabilize the wall in its current position, and they can be tightened over time for possible wall improvement. The homeowner now has peace of mind knowing his home will be a safe and stable living environment for many years to come.
Push Pier Installation in Wheelersburg, OH
A homeowner in Wheelersburg, OH noticed a bowing wall in his 24-year-old home. This was concerning for safety and property value reasons, so he called Ohio Basement Authority for help. One of our inspectors visited the home to assess the situation. He determined that the project called for Push Piers, as well as a few carbon fiber straps and IntelliBrace beams. The homeowner agreed and the project was underway. The installation crew first installed one carbon fiber strap and three IntelliBrace beams inside the foundation walls. Carbon Fiber is a study material with a very high tensile strength (its ability to resist breaking under tension), so it is almost impossible to stretch. IntelliBrace beams are steel supports that are custom-fit to the height of the wall and locked in place with wall brackets anchored to the floor. Then, the bulk of the project involved installing 12 push piers. These are piers driven deep into the soil to underlying bedrock or another stable soil layer. They can provide an opportunity to life a home back toward its original position, often closing cracks and improving operation of doors and windows that may have stuck due to foundation failure. The homeowner can now sleep soundly knowing that his home is safely supported by these reliable repairs.

The homeowner contacted Ohio Basement Authority after learning more about our company online, and we presented him with the perfect solution. One of our expert crews installed two Helical Piers underneath the chimney.

SafeDri Triple Sump Pumps Keep a Flooding Basement Dry in West Portsmouth, OH
They have lived in their house since it was built two years ago, but homeowners in West Portsmouth, OH, did not know what it was like to have a dry basement. The basement always flooded during periods of heavy rain. Even though they had an existing exterior and interior waterproofing system, including a sump pump, this system was obviously failing. The homeowners were tired of dealing with this problem and worrying about the safety of their home every time it rained. They contacted Ohio Basement Authority after learning more about our company online, and they met with one of our expert inspectors. The owners were equally excited for one of our crews to upgrade their sump pump system. Because of the vast size of the home and basement, the owners opted to have four SafeDri Triple sump pumps installed in their basement to ensure it would always stay dry. Along with three powerful pumps inside the sump liner, the exterior battery backup ensures the system will always work to pump water out of the basement. FreezeGuards were attached to the exterior sump pump discharge lines, and these lines were tied into new downspout conductor lines that were installed on the property. A dehumidifier also was installed in the basement. This powerful, yet energy-efficient system cleans and filters the air and helps control moisture and humidity. Unlike conventional dehumidifiers, ours self-drains so no buckets have to be emptied. The homeowners now have peace of mind knowing these reliable solutions will always keep their basement dry.
BasementGutter, SafeDri, & CrawlSeal Create Healthier Basement in Portsmouth, OH
Homeowners in Portsmouth, OH, wanted to sell their home, but first needed to address a significant basement leakage issue. They tried "do it yourself" waterproofing methods that proved to be ineffective because water was still seeping into the basement. They contacted Ohio Basement Authority, and one of our expert crews installed the sub-floor BasementGutter drainage system around the basement's perimeter. The BasementGutter intercepts any water and drains it to the SafeDri Prox sump pump. The SafeDri pumps the water out of and away from the home through a discharge line. An FreezeGuard was attached to the exterior discharge line to prevent flooding if the line freezes or becomes blocked. A back coal room in the older home's basement was also encapsulated in CrawlSeal liner. The durable liner was completely sealed over the floor and walls to fully isolate the home from the earth. The result is an attractive, bright, tough, impervious liner, and a healthy home! The homeowners are pleased to have a healthier basement that will be dry for future owners for many years to come.

Waterproofing and Foundation Repair in Wheelersburg, OH
Homeowners in Wheelersburg, OH called us with foundation and flooding concerns. They had a bulging wall in their basement with water coming through the cracks. A certified inspector came to the home and suggested many repairs for a complete waterproof and foundation repair. These products were IntelliJack, FreezeGuard, SafeDri Triple, BasementGutter, and YardWell. The homeowners were very concerned with the health and safety of their home, so they agreed to have this complete repair list installed. To begin with, the crew put in the SafeDri Triple sump pump. This is a 1/3 horsepower pump with a 1/2 horsepower backup pump and a SafeDri battery back-up pumping system. Next, to prevent floods if the discharge line were to freeze, they affixed FreezeGuard to the line. This provides an escape route for water even if the pipe is buried under a foot of ice and snow. Then, they added the YardWell Outlet at end of discharge line. This allows water to be discharged onto the surface, but disguising the end of the pipe and prevents tripping or lawnmower hazards. After that, they brought in the Basement Air System to keep humidity low. This is a dehumidifying system unlike any other — it eliminates damp, musty odors by drying and filtering the air. Fifth, they set up the IntelliJack Support System to stabilize the floor joist and beams. These are steel supports used to stabilize and level the girders (vertical structure beams) and floor joists (horizontal support beams) in a crawl space. Finally, they installed the BasementGutter sub-floor drainage system. This is an interior piping system used to gather water from on top of and under the floor, as well as the wall without clogging. This collected water will travel to the sump pump and outside through the discharge line. The homeowners are thrilled with all of these repairs, and they are no longer worried about flooding or foundation failure.

My sister-in-law hired Ohio Basement Authority for her wet basement and was happy with the results, so she referred me to you.

The representative that came for the inspection was very professional and easy to talk to. He explained the products and the lifetime warranty, and I was sold.

The installation crew was very courteous and always made sure everything was to my liking. They updated me on their progress every step of the way and made sure they had cleaned up sufficiently when they were done.

We chose to work with Ohio Basement Authority because the price was lower, and the inspector was a big influence because of his knowledge and professionalism. He was informative and did a fantastic job.

Overall, an excellent job!

We have what appears to be 2 crawl spaces that are pretty much unprotected (plywood and foam placed in front). We are having rodent problems and believe that is where they are coming in at. We would like doors installed and like to have crawl space inspected. Thanks.Additional information:How did you hear about us?: Internet Search

Small utility basement with clay tile type drainage that flows into a 5 gal bucket. Large volume of water coming in at this time. Pedestal sump pump cycles on and off about every 10 seconds. Concerns are location of sump pump and drainage system is so old it isn't working well plus sump pump failure.
